4th Grade and Cathedrals
In 4th grade’s study of the Middle Ages, students discovered many important events that happened in cathedrals throughout Europe and learned how these beautiful buildings played a central part of medieval life. They studied different architectural styles (Byzantine & Gothic) and the individual architectural components found in cathedrals - rose windows, spires, flying buttresses, narthex, etc.
To more fully grasp the beauty and understand the composition of cathedrals they were able to tour St. James Cathedral! Their guide was especially pleased that our students could translate many of the Latin sayings. Before students left, they sang the doxology by the altar to hear the wonderful acoustics and create a beautiful moment in a beautiful place. Click through below to listen.
