5th Grade Pilgrim Feast
To coincide with their history unit, 5th Grade enjoyed a Pilgrim feast while learning about the Plymouth Plantation, the Massachusetts colony formed by those on the Mayflower.
Students made butter and enjoyed food made from authentic recipes with ingredients like corn, lima beans, molasses, and cucumbers. After a meal without modern utensils, students partook in some common pastimes of the Pilgrims.
It was particularly special to recite a Puritan prayer that is part of the student’s daily liturgy - The Voyage from The Valley of Vision:
Oh Lord of the Oceans
My little bark sails on a restless sea.
Grant that Jesus may sit at my helm and steer me safely.
