5 quESTIONS TO CONSIDER
What is SCCS seeking in a family partnership?
Is your family committed to Christ?
Our families value our commitment to Christ in all that we do. Our students memorize Scripture regularly and are taught to live according to them. We pray and work so they will translate what they learn here into a life of service to Christ. If you share these values, you probably will fit well at SCCS.
Is your family committed to children of character?
Character and virtue are of paramount importance—they influence every aspect of a person’s life. Within our loving and structured environment, we call students to a high standard that is steeped in grace. We honor how each student is created in the image of God, deeply respect their unique personalities, and delight in using challenges to offer an opportunity to grow in character and virtue. We expect parents to support our teachers and administration as we lovingly yet firmly train up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. If you value a partnership with a school that will direct your student to pursue character and virtue, you will do well at SCCS.
Do you value academics and a Christian work ethic?
Education simultaneously involves labor and joy: the effort of investigation and grappling, and the delight of understanding and mastery. SCCS commits to offering an education that is rich, ordered, meaningful, and challenging. We know it will be hard work, but we also know it will be valuable and rewarding, and that students have a great capacity for it. Students at every stage are trained, encouraged, and expected to work diligently and with a purpose toward an education that is marked with wonder and delight. As primary educators of their children, this requires investment from parents as well as students. If you are serious about finding an educational partner with you in preparing your child for life, you may do well at SCCS.
Do you value whole-child education?
Some parents want a mainstream education for their children like they had and look for the same characteristics of their own schooling experience. Seattle Classical Christian School represents a different educational option in purpose, form, and content. From our uniforms to our study of the great books, to our emphasis on writing and speaking, our ultimate goal is to shape the hearts and minds of our students in a culture of Christian discipleship. The end goal is not that students would simply acquire information, but that they would gain the tools of learning and aspire to wisdom - and that they would enjoy doing so. If you see education as a relatively generic commodity with slight distinctions, then you may not find our form of education appealing. If you are attracted to education that alters the focus of education to who we become, not simply what we know, then you should consider our school.
Does your family love learning and books?
Families who read and love to learn send children to SCCS because they want the world of language, books, history, science, and math to be an integrated whole. They want their children to use their love of knowledge to explore and seek Truth. We use integrated interdisciplinary learning and participate in the "Great Conversation" by studying ideas that have stood the test of time. This ongoing conversation of great minds down through the ages is facilitated by reading rich, primary-source material that can be unpacked again and again. Families who hold in high regard a love of books, knowledge, and learning will find SCCS compelling.
Are you willing to invest time in your child’s growth?
SCCS partners with parents to provide life-changing education. We act and operate under the principle of “in loco parentis” – a Latin phrase that means “in the place of a parent” understanding that parents have God-mandated authority over their children, and we are coming alongside in partnership. If you are looking for a school to reinforce your efforts at home as you seek for your student to grow in academics, virtue, and faith, then you should consider partnering with SCCS.
