THE POWER OF SCHOOL TRADITION

School traditions play a vital role in shaping the culture and identity of our community. At Seattle Classical Christian School, traditions foster a sense of belonging, build connections, and help students live out the values of faith, character, and excellence. They create lasting memories and provide opportunities for growth—personally, academically, and spiritually. Some of our beloved school traditions include: Read All Day, Skate Night, Spelling Bee, Curriculum Costume Day, Speech Meet, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, Virtue Artifact Awards, Logic & Rhetoric Retreat, SCCS Serves and Day of Service, All-School Art Exhibit, Spirit Week, and Protocol.

ASSEMBLIES TO WORSHIP, LEARN, AND GROW

Our assemblies create opportunities for a rich community and a sense of belonging as we learn and worship together.

W3 Assembly: W3 stands for Worship, Wisdom, and Wonder. Each week, Pre-K through 6th-grade students assemble to worship God in song, learn about God's character, and grow in wonder together.

Weekly Chapel: 7th—12th grade students practice weekly chapel together, which includes opportunities for guest speakers, student-led devotionals, and corporate worship.

All-School Chapel: Once a month, the entire student body gathers to worship and learn together. Parents are invited to attend.

STRONGER TOGETHER: THE POWER OF OUR HOUSE SYSTEM

House systems have existed for centuries and have been a staple culture builder for classical schools. SCCS Houses (teams of students from 7th to 12th grade) create instant community, facilitate student connection, and provide regular opportunities for leadership and mentorship. Each house earns points throughout the year through friendly competitions, academic achievements, and demonstrations of virtue, all aimed at winning the yearly House Cup.

Our four houses are Aquila, Delphinus, Fornax, and Ursa. Each represents a constellation in the night sky (essential for voyagers!) and a cardinal Christian virtue.

Inspiring Creativity and Truth Through the Arts

Music and art train the whole person—mind, heart, and soul—to love what is beautiful and to offer that beauty back to God. That’s why they belong at the heart of our classical Christian education.

Music: Music is woven into the fabric of learning at SCCS. Students receive formal music instruction at every grade level, with an emphasis on building musical literacy as a foundation for a lifetime of confident worship and joyful musical engagement.

Art: We invite students to observe with wonder, create with joy, and delight in beauty. Elementary students explore a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, weaving, pottery, and sculpture, building skills through hands-on practice. As they grow, students refine technique and composition while connecting their work to history, literature, and Scripture—seeing how beauty and truth are expressed across subjects.

SCCS parent volunteering

Parent Engagement

We value our long-standing tradition of deeply engaged parents and continually strive to grow and empower our community, ensuring our school becomes the place we all envision it to be. Parents are invited and encouraged to participate in school life in whatever ways they are able—from classroom help to chaperoning field trips, you’ll find parents woven into the daily rhythm of our school, and we love it. We offer parent enrichment events throughout the year to help families better understand classical Christian education and feel equipped to support their children’s growth.

FORMING SERVANT LEADERS

Service is a natural outpouring of our mission at SCCS. Students engage regularly in acts of service—both within the school and in the broader community. Each year, our SCCS Serves Week highlights this commitment through school-wide volunteer efforts. Students are also daily encouraged to serve one another through shared responsibilities and classroom chores, encouraging humility, stewardship, and servant leadership.

SCCS Archery Club

CLUBS AND COMMUNITY BUILDING

We care deeply about building a community that “pulls” students in the right direction—sparking wonder, cultivating virtue, celebrating hard work, and cultivating honoring relationships. Offering unique opportunities for students to come together outside of the typical school day helps engage the whole student and build community. To that end, our students enjoy things like the Archery Club, Robotics Club, Speech & Debate Club, Drama Club, and Dodgeball Club.

We believe in supporting every student's interests, even if it's beyond our current offerings. If SCCS does not offer a particular sport, students may choose to participate with their local public school.

HELPING MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THRIVE

Students need to be in an environment where they can build confidence, grow, ask questions, fail, and discover who they are becoming. At SCCS, we cultivate this through intentional student culture programs designed to support and shape our middle and high school students.

  • Starting in 7th grade, SCCS students kick off the year with an overnight retreat designed to build relationships with peers and teachers. They are inducted into their House, participate in team-building activities, explore nature, and share devotionals—all fostering a strong, intentional community.

  • Protocol Night for 9th to 12th graders prepares young men and women to be comfortable in social settings and care for others well

  • SCCS Houses (teams of students across Upper School grades) create instant community, facilitate student connection, and provide regular opportunities for leadership and mentorship.
